Every human being on God’s good earth today is simultaneously endowed with three inter-locking nationalities. The first is the Ethnic Nationality into which one is born and, in most cases, bred with natural distinguishing characteristics and primary communication mode such as language.

Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has lashed out on corrupt political elite from Igbo extraction who advance their selfish political interests to the detriment of the collective interest of the people.

The Aba Regional Administrator of MASSOB Mr. Larry Odimma made this known in a press briefing in Umuahia on the activities of the organisation to actualise its agitations for the Sovereign State of Biafra .

“We are not only asking for Biafra , but we are also asking that Igbo land must be sanitized. MASSOB is that broom that will sweep away all the dirty politicians among us. All the criminals and kidnappers who use the blood of our people to enrich themselves”.

The MASSOB chief also lambasted the South East governors for not gracing the just-concluded World Igbo Day Celebration in Owerri accusing them of spending extravagantly to attend the World Igbo Congress in the US for their selfish interests.

According to him, Igbo political elite allegedly use the WIC as a ploy to ferry money abroad, and called on Igbo political leaders to stop serving the interest of the Northern oligarchy or else relinquish power to those who have the interest of the people at heart.

Similarly, he accused media executives of allegedly conniving with the federal government to suppress the agitation for Biafra and asked the press to resist any attempt to be gagged by government.

He however, lauded the new leadership of Ohaneze ndigbo for its effort to give the Igbo nation a new identity, and called on Ndigbo to unite and pursue the collective interest of the race in the Nigeria ‘s political equation.

Mr. Odimma further noted that the reduction in the avalanche of media attack on the person of the Biafra war lord, Chief Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, was as a result of the intervention of MASSOB and reiterated the preparedness of the group to deal ruthlessly with anybody who dares to insult the people’s leader for any reason whatsoever.

He also commended the leader of MASSOB Chief Ralph Uwazuruike for his efforts to emancipate Ndigbo from decades of political slavery, and reaffirmed the non- violence posture of the group in the actualization of its agitations.

Abuja – Nigeria’s main rebel group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend), is threatening to call off its ceasefire with the government if foreign oil companies do not leave their land.

Henry Okah, the group’s leader, told Al Jazeera’s Yvonne Ndege that the government has not stuck to its part of the deal and that “there will be a resumption of violence very soon”.

Many of the armed groups argue that they are fighting for a greater share of oil revenue to remain in the Niger delta and complain of the pollution caused by the industry.

Attacks on pipelines and industry facilities – along with the kidnapping of oil workers – since early 2006 have cost the world’s eighth-biggest oil exporter billions of dollars a year in lost revenues and added to volatility in global energy prices.

Dora Akunyili, the Nigerian minister of information, told Al Jazeera: “We need to establish peace in that region. It is only when peace is established that meaningful dialogue can follow and sustainable development would naturally be in place.”
